Shield: The heart needs to be protected against the temptations of the world. We can protect our hearts in part by educating ourselves and learning the truth about our bodies and our creation.

Open Heart: According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “the heart is our hidden center, beyond the grasp of our reason and of others; only the Spirit of God can fathom the human heart and know it fully. The heart is the place of truth, where we choose life or death. It is the place of encounter, because as image of God we live in relation: it is the place of covenant”. (CCC 2563) In our society our hearts are often broken, unable to encounter God. In particular, cultural beliefs about human sexuality have hardened and broken our hearts. We seek to heal the heart through loving instruction in the principles of Theology of the Body. In this case, the heart should also be open to receiving God and His Word.
